Summer Academy canceled to allow for capital construction

During each of the past two summers, Broadalbin-Perth students in pre-K through grade 6 have had the opportunity to participate in a free four-week enrichment program called Summer Academy. However, because of the scheduling of Phase 2 construction work as part of the district’s $39.7 million capital project, B-P will not be able to offer this opportunity in 2018.

“It’s unfortunate that we’re having to cancel Summer Academy because we’ve received nothing but positive feedback about it, from parents, students and teachers alike,” said Superintendent of Schools Stephen Tomlinson. “But because there is so much construction activity planned at both campuses this summer, it would be impossible to keep our students safe in that kind of environment. So, we were really left with no choice.”

Parents who are interested in learning about other summer programs in the region should call their child’s school and keep an eye on the district’s eBackpack, where many community organizations post information about their available summer programs.
