The Broadalbin-Perth Central School District will host public presentations that deal with the safety and emotional well-being of students on back-to-back nights, March 27 and March 28. On Tuesday, the district will host a screening of the award-winning documentary “Screenagers” at 6:30 p.m. in the Margaret Robin Blowers Auditorium. The next night, B-P will host a panel discussion about school safety at 6:30 p.m. in the Virtual AP Room. Both venues are at Broadalbin-Perth High School.
“The two topics these programs are addressing are so important to our district’s mission of educating the whole child,” said Superintendent of Schools Stephen Tomlinson. “Obviously, concerns about school safety and security are front and center in the news, and it’s something we look at every day. And technology is so much a part of our society that I think we, as parents and as educators, need to pay attention to how technology use is affecting our kids.”
According to the filmmakers, “Screenagers” is about the impact of the digital age on children and how families can minimize any harmful effects and help their children find balance. Admission to the movie is free, and popcorn and bottled water will be provided, also free of charge. Advance registration through the online registration form is requested for planning purposes. Please note, because of some mature themes, this movie is not appropriate for young children. However, children in grades 5-12 are welcome to attend with their parents.
Broadalbin-Perth’s school safety forum will feature a panel that includes Tomlinson, B-P Board of Education President Ed Szumowski, Fulton County Sheriff Robert Giardino, Fulton County District Attorney Chad Brown, and a B-P High School student. Panelists will address questions submitted by residents through an online form.
Advance registration for planning purposes is requested for both events. Residents can register online:
