The Broadalbin-Perth Summer Drama Program’s production of “Jungle Book Kids” promises a whirlwind of sight and sound when it hits the stage on Friday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. in the Margaret Robin Blowers High School Auditorium. Community members are invited to attend the play, which is the culmination of a six-week program geared toward students in grades 3-9. Admission will be $5 per person, and free for children ages three and younger.

High school freshman Michaela Staie, who will play the tiger Shere Khan, said the production is like “literally opening up the Jungle Book.”

“We’ve worked really hard to make it look like a movie on stage. This is my fourth year with the program, and I think this year’s play will be the best one yet,” she said.

Senior Carley Nolan is one of the high school volunteers who is assisting with the direction of the play, including sets, costumes, make-up and other behind-the-scenes support.

“I grew up participating in this program. I started when I was 10. Being here is like reliving my childhood,” she said.

Director Michael Ott has watched students develop their creativity, collaboration and leadership skills while boosting their confidence during the six-week program.

“The play has a positive message about the importance of respecting your peers and getting along with one another,” he said. “There is sure to be something for everyone.”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the summer drama program.
