Hats for Haiti

Seventh-grader Robby Carr and ninth-grader Ashlyn Hill wrapped up their Hats for Haiti project, collecting hundreds of ball caps and wide-brimmed hats, as well as sunglasses, to be taken to Haiti during an upcoming VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) mission trip.

With collection points at BPMS and BPHS, as well as a collection at a Union College men’s hockey game, the two collected 616 hats and more than 70 pairs of sunglasses.

VOSH is a nonprofit organization that provides free eye care and glasses to the poor in developing countries. Carr’s aunt is heading to Haiti on a VOSH mission trip and will take the donations with her. Haiti has a high rate of preventable blindness, and it is hoped that providing them with eye protection will help reduce the number of Haitians who suffer from vision problems.
