The Broadalbin Perth High School boys indoor track team finished second place at Section 2, Division 3 championships on Sunday, which Coach Allissa Melucci says was the best sectional finish in the program’s history.
Some highlights from the meet were:
- Jeff Derwin won the shot put (52-9.25) and weight throw (49-5.5).
- Chris Wagner was second in the 55 hurdles (8.62) and pole vault (13-6).
- Sean Meher was second in the long jump (17-7.5) and triple jump (38-5.0).
- Joey Vitalis was fourth in the 600M (1:33.26).
- Jon Simmons was fourth in the 55 hurdles (11.05).
- Niko Mancini was sixth in the triple jump (35-11.75).
- Ivan Roberts was sixth in the high jump (5-4).
- Jeff Shlomovich was fifth in the pole vault (9-6).
- The 4x200M team of Jon Simmons, Jake Galarneau, Zydain Jackson, and Jeff Shlomovich was fifth (1:51).
- The 4x400M team of Sean Meher, Ivan Roberts, Chris Wagner and Joey Vitalis was fourth (3:58).
Melucci said the athletes often had next to no rest between events, but everyone was prepared and focused on team collaboration.
“This was proof to our team that hard work and belief really pay off,” Melucci said. “We’ve been working for this all season long, and it was very rewarding to everyone to see it happen.”
