Broadalbin-Perth fully supports Fulton County’s and New York State’s COVID-19 contact tracing efforts and strongly encourages all members of the community to answer their phones and comply with all directives from Fulton County and the NYS Department of Health.

We’d like to provide some clarification on the message that was sent to our community yesterday evening. The New York State Department of Health school guidance considers symptomatic individuals as “presumed positive” cases if they do not have a negative test after 48 hours of symptoms. “Presumed positive” cases are treated the same as test-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. Individuals in the Broadalbin-Perth community who received phone calls from New York state contact tracers were told that they were exposed to a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 at B-P Elementary School, as that is how public health and schools should proceed when the COVID-19 status is unknown. School and public health officials will proceed with public health investigations and response activities as if these are confirmed cases based on this guidance to ensure the utmost precautions are taken to protect students, faculty, and our community.

“We are committed to working collaboratively with the Fulton County Health Department, the New York State Department of Health, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office to do all that we can to help slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Superintendent of Schools Stephen Tomlinson.
