There will be no in-person classes for students in pre-K through grade 6 at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School on Friday, Oct. 16. Students will participate in remote learning activities that day. BPES staff should NOT report to the building, but should instead work from home on Friday. Broadalbin-Perth Jr./Sr. High School will be open and operating as usual.
The building is shutting down because of two “presumed positive” cases at BPES under the Department of Health’s most recent guidance, which requires school districts to initiate contact tracing whenever a symptomatic student or staff member is not evaluated by a health care provider or is not tested for COVID-19 within 48 hours of symptom onset. To be clear, there is no confirmed case of COVID-19 at B-P Elementary School.
The DOH guidance requires that close contacts of “presumed positive” individuals be quarantined. The “presumed positive” cases at BPES affected 13 staff members who will not be allowed to report to work on Friday. Because of this, the building does not have sufficient staff to operate safely.
Any families with students who may also need to quarantine will be contacted by the New York State Virtual Call Center Contact Tracing Team.
While BPES is empty on Friday, custodial crews will complete deep cleaning and disinfecting of all learning spaces. District leaders will work with the Fulton County Department of Health to obtain further guidance and clarification about this situation. Broadalbin-Perth will communicate with families directly through ParentSquare and the district website when more information is available.
