Two Broadalbin-Perth musicians will be playing with the best high school bandmates in the area this weekend. Senior Matt Syzdek and sophomore Kate Szumowski will be performing with the NYSSMA Zone 7 Area All-State band on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Syzdek, who plays the clarinet, and Szumowski, who plays the French horn, will rehearse with the band for the first time on Friday during the day, and then for a couple of hours on Saturday before the performance. The entire band will play together on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Saratoga Springs High School.
This is Syzdek’s second year playing with Area All-State, and he says he is looking forward once again to playing with a meeting new people as part of the experience. This is Szumowski’s first year with All-State. She says she is looking forward to seeing what it is all about.
“It’s a real privilege to be chosen,” said Szumowski. “A real honor to be selected,” Syzdek agreed. “It’s great to be able to be recognized for our achievements.”
Both students thanked their music teachers over the years, both within the Broadalbin-Perth music program and outside teachers as well.
