Broadalbin-Perth High School students in Chereith Vincent’s Children’s Literature class recently paired up with Megan Floyd’s pre-kindergarten students at The Learning Community for a collaborative project.
Vincent’s students began this school year dissecting and analyzing the works of Grimm to Disney and the shifts made over the course of history.
The high school students interviewed Floyd’s students, and, from their understanding of what qualifies a children’s book to be “children’s literature,” they created books for their pre-K student partners. For each high school student, their pre-K partner became the main character/protagonist in the story.
The high-schoolers visited the pre-K students a number of times and spent many weeks working on their books before bringing their finished products to Floyd’s classroom to read to their pre-K partner the books and give the books to them.
