An Odyssey of the Mind team from Broadalbin-Perth High School has advanced to the World Finals in Ames, Iowa, May 23-26. The team earned the right to compete at Worlds after winning first place at the state championship at Binghamton University on April 7.
The team, which includes juniors Rhys Floyd, Erin Morrison and Ava Naple, and sophomores Caylie Bleyl and Avery Fenton, is coached by Megan and Dave Floyd. Team members have worked for eight months on the solution to their long-term problem, “A Stellar Hangout.” According to the Odyssey of the Mind website, teams who chose this problem had to create a humorous performance centered on “an intergalactic hangout where all sorts of creatures from different worlds stop, eat, refuel, and relax.”
Team members are requesting donations through a GoFundMe page to pay for travel to and from Iowa. Community members interested in supporting the team may do so on the team’s fundraising page.
This will be the team’s third trip to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, and their second trip to Iowa. Team members will be chronicling their journey on Twitter; members of the B-P community can follow @BP_Odyssey to cheer them on.
