Two Odyssey of the Mind teams from Broadalbin-Perth will compete at the state championships at Binghamton University, Saturday, April 7.
A high school team coached by Megan and Dave Floyd will compete in Problem 5, “A Stellar Hangout.” According to the Odyssey of the Mind website, teams who chose this problem had to create a humorous performance centered on “an intergalactic hangout where all sorts of creatures from different worlds stop, eat, refuel, and relax.” Team members are juniors Rhys Floyd, Erin Morrison and Ava Naple, and sophomores Caylie Bleyl and Avery Fenton.
Also headed to Binghamton is a middle school team coached by Becky Gregory and Jess Allen, who will compete in Problem 4, “Animal House.” Teams who chose this problem were challenged to create balsa wood structures that look like animals and can hold as much weight as possible. Team members are seventh-graders Tyler Allen, Lillian Faulkner, Ian Gregory, Kaylee Matarazzo, Antonio Priamo and Sam Spraker, and first-grader Zoe Allen.
The top two teams from each problem and division at the state championship will advance to the World Finals at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, May 23-26.
