The BPIS student council is taking steps to make sure that no students feel left out on the playground.
Last week, council members from the 2016-17 school year unveiled a brand new Buddy Bench. The concept of the bench is simple: students who want to partake in playground games and activities, but may feel shy, can take a seat, which signifies to their classmates that they may need an extra boost to participate.
The 16-17 BPIS student council raised the funds to purchase the bench, and this year’s council members are planning to raise enough money for a second one. Both benches will be placed on the playground of the renovated Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School at the district’s Perth campus, which is scheduled to open for fall 2019.
Council members also applied for and received grants from the district’s PTO and Teachers’ Association to make the purchase, and the bench’s nameplate was donated by Rob and Jill Becker.
