Students at Broadalbin-Perth Intermediate School got some lessons from a local golf pro during their physical education classes the past two weeks, learning proper techniques for how to hold a club, putting, chipping and swinging.

Rich Scott, owner of Fox Run Golf Course in Johnstown, brought the Golf in Schools Program to BPIS as part of the Hamilton Fulton Montgomery BOCES Arts and Enrichment Program.

Scott brought brightly colored clubs and targets he received from Starting New At Golf (SNAG), which provides equipment for teaching people to golf, and worked with third- through fifth-graders during their physical education classes over a two-week period.

“We hope to grow interest in the sport by visiting schools and making golf accessible to kids,” Scott said. “We want it to be for everybody.”
