Respect. Responsibility. Trustworthiness. Fairness. Caring. Citizenship.
Those are the six traits that will be visually depicted on the Pillars of Character Mosaic Quilt, a sizable mosaic being created by Broadalbin-Perth Intermediate School fifth-grade students, thanks to a grant from Saratoga Arts. Linda Biggers, a local artist and aide at BPIS, is overseeing the project after applying for and winning the $3,000 grant.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our students to learn how to collaborate on a single, large-scale artwork, while also gaining a better understanding of the pillars of character,” Biggers said.
The mosaic will be made up of six images, one for each character pillar, with each measuring 2 feet-by-2 feet. Biggers plans to have the piece completed by the end of May with an official unveiling in mid-June. The mosaic will then become a permanent fixture at BPIS.
