Students in C.J. Vincent’s children’s literature English class are in the process of writing their first books, and on Friday they got some tips from a local published author.
Heidi Sprouse explained to the class that “the first step is just finishing your book.” Sprouse also detailed the steps she’s taken, and pitfalls she’s avoided, during the process of publishing her books.
“If you love writing, stick with it,” she said. “J.K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter Series) had hundreds of rejection letters before experiencing success.”
Sprouse teaches English at Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville and continues to write novels for her Lost in the Adirondacks series.
Once Ms. Vincent’s students complete their books, they will be given to first grade classrooms at The Learning Community.
