Today’s B-P Summer Book Club selection is “One Green Apple,” written by Eve Bunting and illustrated by Ted Lewin. It is recommended for children entering first or second grade. New girl Farah feels alone, even when she is with her classmates. She listens, nods, but does not speak. This is because Farah has just moved from another country and doesn’t speak the language her classmates speak. When Farah’s class takes a trip to an apple farm, she realizes that some things sound the same as they did at home, from dogs eating their food to the sound of other people laughing. When she helps the class make apple cider, Farah begins to talk and connect with the other students in her class.
