A group of superheroes recently dropped in on the students at The Learning Community to share some of their summer reading superpowers with the students.
The visit June 15 from Captain America, Wonder Woman, Starlord, The Flash, Batman and Superman was made possible by a group of Broadalbin-Perth High School students, who got into character and visited each classroom. Hunter Roberts, Rachel Alicea, Alex Zarelli, Ben Hitrick, Alex Hitrick, Connor Brooks and Christiane Gifford were willing participants in TLC’s kickoff to summer reading.
The superheroes surprised each class with an appearance, encouraging the students to keep track of all of the time they spend reading this summer, which will be rewarded with prizes when they return in the fall.
All elementary-aged students received calendars on which they can check off each day that they spend time reading. They should bring those sheets to school with them when they return in September.
Students are invited to participate in themed Summer Story Hours, which will take place noon to 1 p.m. in the TLC Media Center on the following Wednesdays:
- July 13, Wild Wild West. Dress up as a cowboy or cowgirl.
- July 20, Super Readers. Dress up as a superhero.
- July 27, Rock Roll Read. Dress up as a rock star.
- Aug. 3, Farm Friends. Bring a stuffed animal.
- Aug. 10, Lost in Space. Dress like an alien.
- Aug. 17, Find the Magic. Dress like your favorite Disney character.
