To promote the positive message from its Act with Respect Always assembly in January, the Intermediate School made Feb. 29 a “99% Day” in which students carried out acts of kindness all over the school.

The idea behind the event is that people’s physical appearance makes up 1 percent of who they are, but the other 99 percent is made up of their character. On Feb. 29, everyone in the school was challenged to use the extra day (the Leap Day in this year) to go the extra mile, fill someone’s bucket, and be at their 99 percent.

Some of the acts of kindness that students and staff did throughout the day were:

  • Students made thank-you notes for others for making a difference in their lives.
  • Students made cards to be sent to the children’s hospital.
  • Students made thank-you notes for the custodians.
  • Students cleaned their classrooms at the end of the day so the custodians did not have to.
  • Fourth- and fifth-graders buddy-read with third-graders.
  • Staff participated in a food drive to benefit the Broadalbin Food Pantry.
