Apply for a Communications Internship

The Broadalbin-Perth Communications Office is seeking applicants for one or two internship positions available now through the end of the 2015-16 school year, with possible continuation into summer 2016 and the 2016-17 school year.

The Communications Office maintains the district website, Facebook page, Twitter account, Instagram account and YouTube channel, as well as the flatscreen monitors located throughout the schools and the digital sign in front of TLC. The office produces the annual wall calendar, budget newsletter and other printed publications.

This internship is an opportunity for students interested in exploring careers in public relations, journalism, marketing, photography, graphic design, video production, and other related fields to gain real-world experience. The Communications Office staff will work with the successful candidate(s) to customize the internship experience to suit the interests and abilities of the student(s) while meeting the needs of the office.

The successful candidate(s) must commit to working at least three hours each week in the office, either during free periods during the school day or after school, or some combination of the two.

Work done by previous interns includes:

  • Running the B-P Summer Book Club program, including working with reading teachers to select books to feature and scheduling web and social media posts;
  • Designing the cover of the 2014-15 district calendar;
  • Designing the district’s Facebook cover photo;
  • Writing news stories about school events;
  • Writing feature stories about school or district programs;
  • Taking photos for use in district publications and on the district website, Facebook page and Instagram account;
  • Updating the video screens throughout the schools;
  • Updating the digital sign outside TLC;
  • Contributing writing, layout and editing to various district publications;
  • Researching and scheduling the daily quotes on the district Facebook page;
  • Posting archived news stories to the district website;
  • Reviewing website content and flagging pages that need to be updated with current information; and
  • Converting PDF documents to a format that is accessible to people with disabilities using adaptive technology.

Interested students should complete the application by Friday, March 25. Selected applicants will be contacted for interviews in early April.

Students who have questions about this opportunity should visit the Communications Office, located inside the media center, or email Ms. Kelley at kelleym@bpcsd.org.
